Preventing Birth Defects (from BabyZone)

Saw this interesting article over at Babyzone. Hmm, let's just say I wish I had read it about a year ago and not a month before I give birth!

While not all birth defects can be prevented, here are the top 10 ways to prepare your body for pregnancy.

  1. Hi Frances,

I think I read this article or something like it while I was pregnant last year (I gave birth last November, three weeks before my 31st b-day!)

I was working full-time during my entire pregnancy, all the way until week 34, when I suffered from a bout of indigestion and went into labor! Thankfully, the baby did not descend. Anyway, that reminded me to take things easy and to watch what I eat, particularly "healthy" foods that are prepared by hand, such as salads. (I stopped working after that scare until I gave birth, on week 39. )

I was doing pre-natal aerobics and walking regularly, but I did have some instances wherein I took alcohol, some wine actually. (I did not know I was pregnant yet.) The important thing, I guess, is when you find out something you're doing may be potentially harmful to baby, it's best to abstain!

I began using eco-friendly and green products during pregnancy, especially since we have no maid to do the cleaning. I recommend Messy Bessy's line of home cleaning products. I would also make my own concoctions, thanks to suggestions from Good Housekeeping.

I hope you are well and strong. Have a good pre-natal massage when you can, I know those helped me a lot. God bless!

This is all pretty new to me so please feel free to share your mommy wisdom!
