Topaz Mommy has a new look!

Topaz Mommy the blog not Topaz Mommy the me!

I made a blog adjustment last night, didn't like it then realized to my horror that there was no reset button so I just had to do a major overhaul. It wasn't so hard and I really like what I came up with--a jelly bean design! And if you've been with me from the very start of my mommy adventures, you'd know why the jelly bean is very special to me!

As for a mommy makeover, I'm doing that soon, too. I've been putting my hair in a pony tail for weeks now and that only means one thing: I need to get a haircut! I've already booked an appointment this week. Will debut my new look soonest!

Because I want to be Tina Fey when I grow up

And because I understand now what it means to be a mother (which means I may actually already finally have grown up).

A Mother's Prayer for Its Child

First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

Tina Fey and daughter AliceMay she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered,
May she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half
And stick with Beer.
Guide her, protect her
When crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the nearby subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock N’ Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance.
Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes
And not have to wear high heels.
What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.

Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long,
For Childhood is short -- a Tiger Flower blooming
Magenta for one day --
And Adulthood is long and Dry-Humping in Cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever,
That she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers
And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister,
Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends,
For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord,
That I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 a.m., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back.
“My mother did this for me once,” she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck.
“My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental note to call me. And she will forget.

But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

The acting-finance part really made me laugh because I don't want Vito to be a writer, only because it is so damn hard, but should he want to become one, I will support it wholeheartedly. At the same time, if he decides to be in computer programming or finance, I don't think I'd want that either because I simply will not be able to communicate with him!

The poop-at-4am part made me cry. Because the first thing I do every morning is clean up my son's behind, which I strangely happily contentedly do and because my Mama is dead and I never really got to thank her because I was ungrateful to the very end of her life. But maybe she sees me, too, and knows because somewhere in heaven she's looking down at me through God eyes.

This poem-prayer is in Tina Fey's new book, Bossypants, a predictably funny and surprisingly endearing and educational memoir of the woman I really identify with.

Wish I had this belly binder 6 months ago!

REPOST: Many mommies complained to me that the Belly Bandit is out of stock at Mothercare branches. So I asked Bench about it. I've been informed that Greenbelt 5, TriNoMa and Shangri-la Plaza now have just replenished their stocks. Happy shopping!

Mothercare sent me the Belly Bandit!!!

I had wanted one since the day I saw it on Chuvaness. Of course, I saw it on Chuvaness last month, that's five months after I had given birth. So I actually don't need it anymore. You're supposed to wear it right after birth so that your flabby saggy biggy belly will shrink in 6 weeks, like so:

Well, I tried on the Belly Bandit and I must say that I love it! It's so cool to wear. And by cool, I mean it's not hot. Since it's made of bamboo, it's naturally anti-bacterial, durable and wicks moisture away from the skin. Coolness. It's super soft, too. Like, unbelievably soft! It feels good to wear really.

I just wish I had this six months ago so I could've tested it! Well, I'm keeping it for the next pregnancy. Did I say next pregnancy?!?

Anyway, Belly Bandit is available at Mothercare. I dunno how much it is. Lemme check when I go to Mothercare. We're always there anyway. We keep buying Vito stuff! Lookit our latest purchase for our little rock star:

Love ya, Vito!

He likes the box. Typical!

The Paez bouquet of Sophia, Lily and Stella gave Vito a truly wonderful Christmas gift (yes, I'm only blogging about it now!). It's Olly Octopus and each tentacle provides stimulation to a curious baby. One tentacle makes a crunchy sound, another squeaks, another can be detached by a buckle, etc.

I am personally delighted with it! My son, meanwhile, is more fascinated with the box!

At last, Vito finally discovers Olly! Thanks, Sophia, Lily and Stella. Little Vito loves playing with Olly lotsa lotsa!

Olly Octopus benefits UNICEF. Please consider UNICEF's gift selection!

Vito's favorite new feeding tool

At Vito's last pedia check up, Dr. Cricket Chen told us about a feeding tool: "It looks like a sock, but it's a mesh. And you put a banana or some other fruit inside and the baby can suck the fruit out and it's mashed na." She couldn't remember the brand or what it's called but she added, "Basta I saw it in Rustan's. Galing na what they come up with for kids these days!"

So off I went to Rustan's to look for this mystery feeding thingamajig. I told the sales ladies, "It's a mesh and you put a banana inside and the baby chews on it and out comes mashed banana." The ladies looked at me blankly for several long seconds. Then one of them said, "Ay, alam ko yan, ma'am! Eto! Munchkin Fresh Food Feeder!"

Put the fruit inside the mesh. No need to slice!
The baby then just chomps on it, mashing the fruit.
Then he sucks the ground up fruit easily! No fear of choking!
It's good exercise for his mouth and acts as a teether, too!
It is absolutely such a wonderful invention! Vito is very very happy with it. It's not expensive at all, too. I don't remember how much--that means the price didn't make an impression on me. I even bought two!

My only problem with it is you can't put juicy stuff in it, like mangoes. It's going to be an awful mess. Bananas and avocadoes and apples are perfect. It's such a fun and easy way to feed your baby healthy food!

P.S. Vito's David & Goliath shirt says, "Sorry, girls. I only date models." Har har!

I want Katie's necklace

So you all know by now that Katie Holmes is the new face of Kamiseta. I think she fits into the brand's wholesome but stylish aesthetic.

I like Kamiseta. My favorite favorite favorite dress when I was preggy was the Gelarmie maxi dress:

Wow. That photo. It feels like it was taken a lifetime ago.

Anyway! Knowing that a fellow mommy is endorsing a Filipino brand is good news. But for me what's best is that I love the quality of Kamiseta's clothes. Nope, this is not a sponsored post! I got nothing for saying that! I really do like the material, the fabric and the simple and classic designs.

I will definitely check out the summer collection. I'm into stripes these days. You can check it out, too. And you don't even need to get out of your chair. Kamiseta's website offers online shopping!

Just a question: Where can I get a necklace like Katie's? I love it! I want mine to be V. For Vince and Vito.

Get yourself and a kid TOMS shoes!

Really liking the kiddie collection of TOMS. They're called TINY TOMS. So cool and cute! I can totally see these cuties on my super duper active Vito:

Then there's TINY TOMS for not so tiny feet:

Vince loves his TOMS shoes. He says they're super comfy so I am sure his son will love TOMS, too.

The best thing about TOMS shoes is every pair purchased means a pair for a child in a developing country, too. Now, TOMS shoes are not cheap. I'm guessing the reason why is you're really buying two pairs--one for you and one you donate to some really lucky kid who needs shoes.

Tomorrow, April 5, TOMS is inviting you to know what's it like to have no shoes. There will be an event at Trinoma Open Gardens called the One Day Without Shoes. It will start at 6pm. Do go! I think it's a great cause.

I won't be able to attend, however, since breastfeeding me has to stay close to home. I'll support TOMS by buying Vito shoes instead!

TOMS shoes are available at Nothing But Water, Swim, Trilogy Boutique and selected Shoe Salon outlets. You can also like their Facebook page. If you want to see celebrities who are fans of TOMS, click here!
