No excuses!

Maria Kang was recently bullied for this photo:

And here's what she said:

I don't diet and I don't exercise and I'm a flabby mess. With the way I eat and with what I eat and how often I eat, thank goodness I'm naturally thin or else I'd be obese. That doesn't mean I'm healthy. My mother was soooo skinny but her cholesterol was off the charts. I'm scared to have mine checked.

I started doing the 7-Minute Exercise a few weeks ago. My body is amazing because I eat a little less or I do a little exercise and I lose fat immediately. So when my shorts started feeling loose, guess what I did? I stopped exercising. I figured I'd rather nap (I need it!) or read or make money or spend time with my hubby and kids.

But looking at Maria Kang's photo above, I have to stop making excuses. I have to get sexy for my Vince. I have to get fit for my kids (it is not easy to keep up with little energetic boys!). Most of all, I have to be healthy so I can be with my Vince, Vito and Iñigo for the longest time possible.

No more excuses!

  1. *clap* *clap* She said it right, the haters' interpretations are not her fault. When I look at the picture, I find inspiration and admire her for what she has accomplished, only a dimwit would think that this is an insult. I am going through my weight loss journey, (lost 20 lbs, 15 more to go), with two kids, a full-time job and grad school, it is not easy, so I need people like Maria to remind me why being healthy and taking care of myself is important.

  2. I'm inspired by this post! I recently went back to boxing (as in very recently, I've had one training this week harhar) after a 5-year hiatus (my last training was before my wedding ;P). After reading this, I'm inspired to keep on going and get back to my old exercise regime. Let's do this mommies!

    1. Yes, Fran! Pregnancy and motherhood is so taxing on our bodies. It's horrible! But my friends who were super fit and healthy before getting pregnant had no problems with pregnancy!

  6. I was just gonna say you're definitely NOT a flabby mess. I saw you last month in Rockwell, and you look great!

For daily exercise that'll push you but not too much, I suggest 30-day Shred. It's just 30 minutes but you will be sweating buckets after. And a bit of muscle pain the day after. :)

  9. So weird that people are hating on her for that post. They should be inspired!

After I had Tala, I was overweight for 3 years. My excuse was always "Ang sarap kasi kumain eh!". Pathetic noh? I'm glad I got some sense knocked into my head. I realized that I only have myself to blame and no one else. Through diet and biking, I was able to lose 40lbs and was able to snap back to my pre-pregnancy bod. After I give birth to my 2nd child, I'm determined to get back to being fit and healthy again.

  10. When I saw the picture, I was in awe, as in jaw dropping pa. She is really fit with 3 kids... she right of what she said, probably there are people who MISINTERPRETED the profile picture but then again she probably posted the picture to be of an inspiration to most moms that we can still be fit despite of having kids and family. For me, she is an inspiration. Inspiration to be fit, healthy. I have posted a lot of times that I will exercise, but I kept postponing it but with this, I intend to be healthy for my girls and to be fit for myself. And I WILL DEFINITELY GO BACK TO EXERCISING. Thank you for this...

    1. Yes, if we change our attitude—that it's not about being vain but about being healthy—then that picture is motivational!

  11. Bully? Seriously? I don't really get it why other women are "hurt". I am fat, but when I saw her photo I felt inspired to exercise just to get her body. Her body is to die for! I want to look young, happy and healthy just like her! People should stop hating, my goodness!

  14. Thanks for the reminder Frances! I recently discontinued my Gold's gym membership after being a no-show for more than year! I only went there 5 times! Kaloka!! I figured I could exercise and practice yoga in the comforts of my own home sans the monthly dues. No excuses! No waking up early to hit the gym! I even printed out the 7 minute exercise you shared in your Facebook hehe :) cheers to us!!!

  17. Let's do this, F!!! I have super high cholesterol, too! It's in the genes talaga, I don't like fatty foods at all, but I love dairy products ;) Please have yourself checked, we need to take care of our health and bodies for our kiddos and hubbies :D

  18. bully? omg! I'd like to print her photo and post it on my wall to see it everyday when I wake up. Such an inspiration. Again thanks for a very timely post, it seems every time I have something on my mind, I get enlightenment from your blog :)
I've been exercising and dieting last month, but lost my motivation kasi parang wala naman nangyayari e. I've lost 2kg on the first week but that's it. Plateau na kagad?! So when the girls went back to school, I've used it as an excuse to stop. I told my husband na I don't think I'd have enough energy to do all the mommy duties and exercise at the same time. And now this! Cge na nga I'll admit na, it really was just an excuse! What a shame! Hahaha!
Sabi nga nila, if there's a will, there's a way so let's get back to it! :)

    1. Yes, that was my excuse, too. I'd rather save my energy for the kids and the household chores. But, wow, 2kg in one week! That's a lot! Go go go kahit na nag-plateau! =)
